Culture, Integration and Public Art: The Role of Public Art in Society

Hector Hernández has focused on combining community murals with education, to reach new generations of painters and community artists. Hernández had his first experience painting murals in Mexico City while he was studying a program in Social Anthropology. He participated as collaborator for two murals under the guidance of the Mexican Master painter Arnold Belkin. This experience led him to painting community murals. Among the subjects and themes reflected in his murals are the community involvement on issues such as environment, education, multiculturalism, and social change.
